Today is the first death anniversary of Ekushey Padak winning poet Hayat Saif.
Born in 1942 in Dhaka, Hayat Saif, aka Saiful Islam Khan, studied English literature at Dhaka University.
Hayat emerged as a poet in the 1960s. His poems depicting patriotism, personal emotions and public issues earned him renown.
He penned eight collections of poems, namely, Rasunbonar Itikotha, Santrasee Subash and others and has to his credit titles of several translations and essays.
Hayat Saif was involved in the revenue administration and tax policy making for more than three decades. He retired in 1999 as chairman of the National Board of Revenue.
He was conferred Ekushey Padak in 2018.
The poet passed away at the age of 76 in 2019.
