At least six construction workers of the Padma Bridge project sustained bullet injuries in Sitarampur area of Munshiganj’s Louhajang upazila on Wednesday.
Asadujjaman, additional superintendent of Louhajang and Shreenagar circle, confirmed the matter saying that they were shot by the security guards.
The workers demanded their due overtime bills and locked in an altercation with the contractors at around 8:30pm. At one stage security guards opened fire on them leaving six injured.
‘Seven workers are admitted. Six had bullet injuries and one was beaten up,’ said Shah Alam, an emergency physician of Shreenagar Upazila Health Complex.
Fakhruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, director of Padma Railway Link Project, said that they were investigating into the matter.
