Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal on Tuesday said that allowing public gatherings through wholesale opening of shops and shopping malls from May 10 amid the spread of coronavirus would be suicidal.
Hasanul Huq Inu and Shirin Akhter, president and general secretary respectively of Jasod, a component of ruling Awami League-led alliance, urged the government to review its decision of opening shops and shopping malls.
In a joint statement, they also said that the government had already announced the whole country risky for coronavirus infection and extended public holidays in phases and issued strict orders to maintain social distancing and stay at home.
Besides, the government had kept public transport suspended and shopping malls, educational institutions and offices closed.
In spite of all the efforts, IEDCR predicted that the number of infected ones in the country would exceed 50,000 in May, the reminded.
The Jasod leaders said that the upcoming Eid would be of no joy or of no shopping and urged the Eid shoppers to stand by the poor people with food refraining from spending money in shopping.
