Man killed in ‘gunfight’

A man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in front of BRAC office of Khilpara union under Chatkhil upazila in Noakhali early Sunday.

The deceased, Md Firoz of Hatpukuria under Chatkhil in Noakhali, was named in at least one dozen of criminal cases, police said.

With Firoz, at least 21 people were killed in ‘gunfights’ with law enforcement agencies during countrywide shutdown since March 26.

Chatkhil police officer-in-charge Md Anwarul Islam claimed that Firoz became critically injured during a gunfight between the police and the suspected drug pedlars in front of BRAC office at Khapara union of the upazila at about 1:00am.

He said that they took injured Anwarul to upazila health complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
