Awami League men sued, Juba League man fined for rice theft

Three activists of ruling Awami League were sued in Mymensingh on Sunday and a Juba League leader was fined Tk 50,000 in Jhalokathi Saturday afternoon on charge of misappropriating government rice.

New Age correspondent in Mymensingh reported that Sadar upazila food officer Hamnur Rahman lodged a case against government rice dealers Nurul Islam, Swapan Mia and Khorshedul Alam Khokon, all are local AL activists, hours after police seized 11 sacks of rice at Charkharicha bazaar in the upazila.

New Age correspondent in Barishal reported that a mobile court on Saturday evening fined Kushangal union’s ward-6 Juba League general secretary Abdur Rahim of village Kushangal under Nalchhiti in Jhalokathi Tk 50,000 after seizing four sacks of government rice.

Nalchhiti upazila assistant commissioner (land) Md Sakhawat Hossain who led the mobile court said that Rahim confessed that he had misappropriated government rice submitting false information.
