Villager killed in conflict between commissioners in Sirajganj

A villager was killed in a clash between the present and former commissioners of Shahjadpur municipality over long-standing conflicts in Sirajganj on Sunday.

The deceased was Asgar Ali, 65, son of late Felal Sheikh of the village.

Shahjadpur police officer-in-charge Md Ataur Rahman confirmed the news and said that Asgar was a supporter of the inclement municipality commissioner Belal Hossain and opponent of the former commissioner Mustafizur Rahman, one of the accused of the murder of the daily Samakal journalist Shimul.

Locals said that Mustafizur Rahman residesd in Parkola and had been in conflict with Belal Hossain for a long time.

Two weeks back, groups of both the sides disputed over poisoning a leased pond used for farming fish, the locals added.

The two sides clashed again on Sunday morning where Asgar got injured and died on the spot.

Police took the body from the spot and sent it to Sirajganj Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Everyone fled the scene when the police arrived and no case has so far been filed in this regard, the officer-in-charge added.
