The staff members of the medical college and hospital under the University of Science and Technology, Chittagong on Sunday went on strike protesting at the termination of 34 health workers.
Around 10:10am on Sunday, the protesters began sit-in in front of the USTC Medical College and Hospital demanding the reinstatement of their jobs.
On April 8, the hospital authorities issued a circular saying that 15 assistants (ayas) and cleaners and 19 nurses were terminated from their job.
They cleared the salaries of the terminated staff members.
USTC Workers Union president Md Manik Mia said that the authorities terminated 34 health workers and transferred 17 employees violating concerned rules.
So, they called the strike until the authorities fulfill their demand.
He said that none from the authorities has come yet to discuss the issue with them.
USTC registrar did not receive calls despite several attempts.
