3 held over selling edible oil in black market in Sirajganj

Police arrested three traders for selling 180 litres edible oil of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh in the black market at the remote Jamuna Char in Kazipur of Sirajganj on Wednesday.

The arrested are Nuru Mahajan and Nurul Islam of Natuarpara, and Abu Hanif of Nishchintapur.

By the directives of Kazipur’s upazila nirbani officer, police conducted raids at Natuarpara and Nishchintapur Bazar on Wednesday afternoon and arrested the traders.

They were produced before a Sirajganj court and it sent them to jail on Thursday afternoon.

TCB dealer Mamidul Islam, son of late Habibur Rahman, a resident of Natuarpara, escaped during the raid. He had also been accused along with the three traders in the case.

Kazipur police officer-in-charge AKM Lutfur Rahman said that inspector Goutam Chandra Mali, in-charge of Natuarpara police outpost, conducted the operation.

Kazipur UNO Jahad Hasan Siddiqui said that police had filed a case against the traders and the dealer.

The TCB authorities have already been asked to cancel the dealership of the accused dealer Mamidul.
