72 Tabligh devotees test positive for COVID-19

At least 72 Tabligh Jamaat devotees, including two from India, tested positive for COVID-19 in Barishal division on Wednesday.

Basudev Kumar Das, divisional health director, said that among them, 32 were from Barishal, 17 from Barguna, 12 from Patuakhali, 6 from Jhalakathi, and 5 from Pirojpur.

After collecting samples from 12 persons of Patuakhali– four tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection. Among them, two were Tabligh Jamaat devotees from India’s Bihar, one from Pabna and one was an assistant community medical officer from Patuakhali, said Mushfiqur Rahman, Patusakhali sadar upazila nirbahi officer.

A total of 7,730 persons were sent to home quarantine in six districts of Barishal division. Of them, 3,874 were released. A total of 193, out of 488 observing institutional quarantine, were released after completing tenure.
