The Bangladesh Bank has reduced the bank transaction hours by half an hour to 12:30pm with an effect from tomorrow.
The BB came up with the circular on April 9 as one of the officials of Agrani Bank was tested coronavirus positive on April 8.
Besides, the central bank also took into consideration the banks’ proposal to squeeze the banking hours amid the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
As per the BB’s circular, the office hours for the bankers will start at 10:00am and continue till 2:00pm.
Although the general banking activities like cash withdrawal and deposit, inward remittance encashment would end at 12:30am, the banks dealing with foreign exchange will continue providing services till 1:30pm.
Banks have been providing services to their customers on a limited scale since March 29 when the government announced holidays to combat the spread of coronavirus began.
The government in phases has extended the holidays to April 25.
Besides the revision in the banking hours, the BB on April 9 also reiterated that banks must maintain social distancing at their branches.
The BB also asked bankers and customers to follow the World Health Organisation’s guidelines on pandemic coronavirus prevention.
