The Transparency International Bangladesh has called upon the government and mass media outlet owners to ensure health protection as well as professional safety of the media workers engaged in covering the coronavirus crisis.
TIB, a non-government graft watchdog, also asked for giving the media workers incentives besides payment of their regular wages during the crisis period, according to a statement issued on Thursday.
‘This is universally recognised that the precondition for success in fighting this coronavirus disaster is to ensure free flow of information. No information should be suppressed. There should not be any obstacle in publicity of any information,’ TIB executive director Iftekharuzzaman said in the statement.
He said that free flow of information should be ensured more now than in normal times and the media workers’ health and professional safeties must be ensured so that they could perform their responsibilities during the crisis.
He called upon the media owners and the government to ensure incentives for the mass media workers besides payment of their regular wages.
TIB said that the media owners must ensure that their workers were not exposed to health risks while discharging their duties during the coronavirus situation.
