Four Chattogram Hill Tracts-based organisations urged the government to inform whereabouts of United Peoples’ Democratic Front leader Michael Chakma and trace him immediately as he remained missing for one year.
Pahari Chhatra Parishad president Bipul Chakma, Hill Women’s Federation president Nirupa Chakma, Ganatantrik Juba Forum president Angya Marma and UWF president Sachib Chakma made the demand in a joint statement.
Michael, also organiser and spokesperson of UPDF and general secretary of United Workers’ Front, disappeared on April 9, 2019 when he was on his way to Dhaka from Kanchpur in Narayanganj.
The statement thanked the prime minister Sheikh Hasina for ordering the home minister to release people who had already served life term and now in jail in cases of bailable offences.
They alleged that the government could not inform about his whereabouts in past one year and that the non-cooperation of different law enforcement agencies proved that Michael was now in state’s custody.
