Veteran labour leader Md Zafrul Hasan, an adviser to Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson and former general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka on Monday. He was 74.
Zafrul, also joint-secretary general and executive director of Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies, left behind his wife and two daughters to mourn his death.
BILS in a statement said that the veteran trade union leader was suffering from cancer for long and as his condition deteriorated on March 8, he was admitted to Apollo Hospitals where he died at about 12:10pm on Monday.
Born on February 9, 1946 in Faridpur, the labour leader was the founding general secretary of Institute of Diploma Engineers’ Bangladesh.
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a statement expressed their deep shock at the death of the veteran leader.
BILS chairman Md Habibur Rahman Siraj and secretary Nazrul Islam Khan in a separate statement expressed their shock and said that his death caused irreparable loss to the trade union in Bangladesh and international arena.
