Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said that Bangladesh Nationalist Party seemed rather happy with the number of death in COVID-19 infection on the rise.

In a press meet with Bangladesh Television, Obaildul, also road transports and bridges minister, said that BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and his party seemed unhappy as the government was showing success in controlling the coronavirus spread.

He said that BNP tried to make the situation bad and destroyed the unity of the people against the coronavirus pandemic providing misleading information.

Rejecting the proposal of BNP to the government to announce a Tk 87,000 crore incentive package targeting different classes to tackle the economic crisis, Obaidul said that the proposal was against the flourishing economy of the country. He said that BNP made the proposal to make people confuse and to complicate the situation.

He said that prime minister Sheikh Hasina was working to get positive initiatives for the economy considering the capacity and prospect.

BNP secretary general made the proposal on behalf of the party in a press conference at the party chairperson’s office in the capital’s Gulshan area.
