First COVID patient identified in Chattogram

A patient has been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Chattogram and has been admitted to hospital, where he is receiving treatment in isolation.

Chattogram civil surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi on Friday said that they got a lab report in the evening which confirmed that the patient was tested positive for coronavirus.

He also said that samples were earlier sent to the Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Disease (BITID) of Chattogram to determine the patient’s condition.

Now the patient is in the isolation unit of Chattogram General Hospital, he added.

On Friday samples of 32 patients with COVID symptoms were collected at BITID Chattogram for tests, said officers.

Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that earlier the institute tested samples collected from 87 patients and all of those were tested negative.

He said that earlier two patients had died while undergoing treatment in the hospital’s isolation unit but they were not suffering from COVID-19.
