Vocalist of popular fusion band Chirkutt, Sharmin Sultana Sumi has urged music lovers to stay at home amid the coronavirus outbreak.
‘Please stay at home, practice hygiene and pray. We are facing a critical situation. I hope the crisis would be over soon and life will return to normalcy,’ said Sumi.
Chirkutt is known for its songs portraying social issues including violence against women, child marriage and others.
‘We have released a song under the banner of Grameenphone titled “Cholo Eksathey Durey Thaki” on March 26. It has received huge response from music lovers,’ added Sumi.
The song has been penned by Syed Gousul Alam Shaon and tuned by Sharmin Sultana Sumi and produced, mixed and mastered by the drummer and sound producer of Chirkutt Pavel Areen.
Sadi Muhammad, Sharmin Sultana Sumi, Tahsan Khan, Elita Karim, Milon Mahmud, Jahid Nirob and Sandhi have lent their voices to the song.
‘I really enjoyed tuning and lending my voice to the song. All the singers gave their voices online and the song was composed at Pavel’s studio. As my house is adjacent to the studio, I went to there for giving my voice,’ mentioned Sumi.
‘The song aims at inspiring people and giving them courage in this time of crisis. Bad times don’t last forever. We have metaphorically compared coronavirus with Hyena in the song. It is a matter of great joy that the song has received huge response from music lovers,’ uttered Sumi.
‘We are working on another song on coronavirus awareness. The title of the song is “Ami Dariye Achhi”. It has been penned and tuned by me. We have plans of releasing the song next week. I hope the song will be both entertaining and educating for music lovers,’ pointed out Sumi.
Chirkutt turned 18 this year. The band earlier announced of celebrating the occasion by performing at concerts and releasing songs. However, the band had to postpone everything in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
When asked about the band’s plans of celebrating its 18th anniversary Sumi replied, ‘We made a number of plans for celebrating the band’s 18 years but all of our plans went to vain in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. We were scheduled to release 18 new songs but it is impossible to follow through under present conditions. We will try our best to release some new songs this year and will finish the rest in the upcoming year. We also cancelled our solo concert which was scheduled to be held in June.’
