A team from the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research has collected samples from the suspected coronavirus patients in Gaibandha to test if they are infected with COVID-19.
IEDCR’s four-member member medical team led by Sohel Rahman came to Gaibandha from Dhaka and inspected the movements of suspected patients in Sadullapur, Sundarganj, Gobindaganj and Gaibandha Sadar, said Hafizur Rahman, a medical officer at the civil surgeon’s office.
The team also collected blood and nasal swab of the suspected patients, he said.
Earlier, they also scrutinised the activities of several people who came into close contact with two US returnees — mother and her son — tested positive with Covid-19 at Hobibullapur, Dhankuthi, Lakkhipur, Bamondanga, and Nakaihat of the district on Tuesday.
Gaibandha civil surgeon ABM Abu Hanif said that the team had already returned back to Dhaka taking the samples on Wednesday afternoon.
Bangladesh on Wednesday confirmed one more death from COVID-19, taking the death toll from the novel coronavirus to five and the number of infected patients is 39.
