Prachyanat School of Acting and Design cancelled its annual ‘Lal Jatra’ performance on Wednesday in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.
The theatre troupe has been organising ‘Lal Jatra’, which condemns the atrocities committed by the Pakistani occupation forces in the first hours of March 26 1971, at Dhaka University campus for a decade.
The annual performance, a brainchild of Rahul Ananda, is brought out from Swoparjita Swadhinata on March 25, at 5:00pm every year. It features a procession where artistes of Prachyanaut present songs, street theatre and others.
The procession walks to the Shikha Chirantan Chatwar and ends with lighting candles in respect of all the martyrs.
‘The performance “Lal Jatra” condemns the atrocities committed by the Pakistani occupation forces in the first hours of March 26, 1971. We have been hosting the annual performance at Dhaka University campus since 2010. This year we made all preparation for arranging “Lal Jatra” but we had to call it off due to coronavirus outbreak,’ Taufiqul Islam Imon, chief secretary of Prachyanat, told New Age.
‘We are currently running the activities of our troupe through social media and preparing a video production containing motivational and awareness messages,’ he added.
‘We are very concerned because coronavirus has laid siege to humanity. So we decided to create a video production which will raise the morale of the people,’ ended Taufiqul Islam Imon.
