Services of all ridesharing companies would remain close for 10 days from Thursday as per a government decision, said officials of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority.
Ridesharing services for ambulance would continue only, they added.
Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday announced the ban on all public transports on roads from March 26 to April 4 to combat the spread of the coronavirus infection.
Bangladesh Road Transport Authority director for engineering Md Lokman Hossain Mollah told New Age that ridesharing services were considered as public transports as their operation was commercial and thus came under the ban.
Ridesharing services for cars, motorcycles, microbuses and jeeps would remain suspend but ridesharing services for ambulance would continue, he said.
Meanwhile trucks, covered vans, vehicles carrying medicine and fuels and all other goods carrying vehicles would remain outside the purview of the ban on road transports.
