India handed over 30,000 surgical masks and 15,000 head-covers to Bangladesh on Wednesday.

As part of India’s Neighbourhood First policy and with a view to taking a collaborative regional approach to containing the spread of Covid-19, Indian high commissioner Riva Ganguly Das handed over the assistance to foreign minister AK Abdul Momen, said a press release.

In pursuance of the announcement made by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi to establish a Covid-19 emergency fund, the fund was setup with an initial contribution of USD $10 million by India. Various SAARC nations including the government of Bangladesh contributed to it.

Preparations were also underway to conduct video conferences between medical professionals and other stake holders in India and Bangladesh for considering specific measures and exchanging best practices, said the press release.
