The Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday asked banks to ensure availability of adequate cash in the automated teller machines during the 10-day holidays announced by the government to combat coronavirus.
To facilitate adequate cash supply in the period, the central bank in a circular on the day asked banks to keep delivering ATM services round the clock.
The BB also asked the banks, which have online-based transaction facility, to keep required number of branches open to facilitate cash deposit and withdrawal, keeping the distances among the branches into consideration.
However, bank branches, which do not have online-based transaction scopes, have been asked to keep branches open to facilitate cash deposit and withdrawal.
For emergency foreign transaction, authorised dealers of the banks would be allowed to run services.
For the period, bank transaction hours in the banks have been cut to two hours, spanning from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Office hours for the banks would be from 10:00am to 1:30pm.
For ensuring safety, banks have been asked to follow social distancing procedure as outlined by the World Health Organisation.
