A local Juba Dal activist in Jamalpur was sent to jail after he criticised ministers in Facebook post for their remarks on coronavirus issue.
Police arrested him early Sunday, hours after a local Awami League leader filed the case with Bakshiganj police station.
The arrested, Sumon Sawdagar, was produced before a local court on Sunday.
Police sought three-day remand, but the court deferred the hearing and sent him to jail, said Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bakshiganj police station.
Police said that the Juba Dal activist posted pictures of few ministers, including road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, and their comments about coronavirus and wrote some remarks about the minister and country on his Facebook wall.
Local Awami League leader Saiful Islam felt offended with the Facebook post and filed the case under digital security act, said OC Shafiqul.
Locals said Sumon shared pictures of ministers including their remarks on coronavirus which went viral on social media and he also blamed the ministers for their ‘irresponsible’ remarks.
Local Juba Dal leaders or Sumon’s family members could not be reached for their version.
