Elephant drowns in Ramu river

A wild elephant died in forest of Khonihapalong in Ramu under Cox’s Bazar South Forest Division early in the morning on Saturday.

Local people said that the wild elephant drowned in a hillside river and later its body was found.

Khonihapalong union chairman Abdul Mabud told New Age that the dead elephant was of about 30–35 years old.

Humyun Kabir, Divisional Forest Officer of the Cox’s Bazar South Forest Division, visited the spot in the morning.

He said that the death of the wild elephant was unnatural. The reason of the death cannot be ascertained before its post-mortem examination, he added.

Local people said that the wild elephant went to the locality for food.
