Man held for degrading Mujib Year celebrations

A man in his forties was held in Mymensingh on Tuesday morning in connection with a case filed against him for his reported attempt to discredit Mujib Year celebrations in a Facebook post. 

Mymensingh Detective Branch officer-in-charge Shah Kamal Akanda said that they arrested Abu Saleh Solaiman Shamim at Ganginar Par area in the town at about 10:00am pertaining to a case filed under Digital Security Act by a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Abu Saleh is a resident of Gohailkandi Khalifabari area at Mymensingh sadar upazila.

He also said that Ananda Mohan College Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Mahmudul Hasan Sabuj filed the case against Abu Saleh on Monday for making ‘derogatory remark’ in a Facebook post on Sunday about the celebration of birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding president of Bangladesh, and prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The officer said that Abu Saleh would be placed in a court seeking time to question him in police custody.
