Students of the Department of Sociology at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet boycotted their classes on Sunday to protest at the strict marking of their teachers in recent examinations.
They also submitted a memorandum to the department head at noon to press for their three-point demand, including reevaluation of answer scripts of the tests.
Their other demands are formation of Social Science Samity in the department and a probe committee on the causes of poor results.
The students alleged that teachers of the department had marked their answer scripts harshly in recent examinations.
They said that with such harsh marking, they would fall behind others in the competitive job market.
The department head Layla Ashrafun Nahar said that she would convene a meeting of the department teachers to discuss on the issue.
