France and Italy have expressed intent to export new generation combat aircraft to Bangladesh, according to diplomatic sources in Paris and Rome.
French defence minister Florence Parly was scheduled to reach Dhaka early Monday on a short visit to seemingly move the proposal for selling Rafale, a twin-jet fighter aircraft, and unmanned combat air vehicle among other military hardware.
Florence Parly is scheduled to call on prime minister Sheikh Hasina and foreign minister AK Abdul Momen during her one-day official visit on Monday. She is scheduled to leave Dhaka on Monday afternoon.
Italy already expressed intent to sell fighter jets, jointly produced with the UK, Germany and Spain, and frigates in the first week of February in Rome.
The US too was in the process of selling different military hardware, including Apache helicopters, to Bangladesh, according to US diplomats in Dhaka.
