Bullet-injured Noakhali BCL leader dies at DMCH

A Chhatra League leader who was shot allegedly by Shibir activists in Begamganj Sunday night succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital Monday noon.

The deceased was identified as Rakib Hossain, 25, son of Sofi Ullah, of Amanullahpur union in the upazila. He was the joint general secretary of BCL union unit.

Begamganj police officer-in-charge Harun-ur-Rashid said, ‘At about 8:00pm on Sunday, leaders of Jamaat-Shibir attacked BCL leaders and activists in Amanullahpur Bazar area and stabbed them indiscriminately and also opened fire leaving Rakib, Farukh Ahmed, 42, Masud Alam, 30, Ibrahim, 30 and Akram Hossain, 24 severely injured.’

Rakib was taken to DMCH on that night and went through a surgery on Monday morning but succumbed to his injuries at 1:30pm, the police officer added.

Amaullahpur UP chairman and union AL president Arifur Rahman said that another BCL leader Habib was admitted to Health Care Hospital with bullet injuries in Dhaka.

The officer-in-charge also informed that police arrested four activists of Jamaat-Shibir and produced them before the court Monday noon.
