A Barishal court on Thursday night rejecting bail prayer of an police official ordered sending him to jail on charge of torturing his wife.

Assistant sub-inspector Isa Khan, posted at Bhola police lines, was sent to Barishal central jail on Thursday night after Abu Shamim Azad, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Barishal, passed the order.

Court sources said that Shahnaj Afroz’s family married off her to Isa Khan in 2017 giving him Tk 2.5 lakh in cash as dowry for buying a motorcycle.

Later, Isa demanded Tk 5 lakh more, and drove away pregnant Shahnaj from home as her family failed to pay the demanded money.

In November 2018, at the house of Isa Khan at Barishal police lines, the fetus aborted in torture of Isa Khan.

When the higher police authorities were informed of the matter, Isa Khan begged pardon and promised to continue conjugal life with Shahnaj peacefully.

But as the torture resumed, Shahnaj came to the house of her brother for arbitration on August 10, 2019. Isa Khan and his brothers came there and demanded dowry again. They tortured Shahnaj and the arbitration attempt failed.

Shahnaj lodged a case against the ASI and his two brothers on January 1, 2020 with the repression prevention tribunal at Barishal.
