Six-day fest marking Mamunur Rashid’s birthday begins today

Abul Kashem Mohammad Mamunur Rashid Khan was born on a leap day on February 29, 1948 as a result his birthday can only be celebrated once in every four years.

The thespian will turn 72 and is all set to celebrate his 18th birthday on February 29, says a press release.

Theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal will celebrate the occasion organising a six-day festival titled ‘Droho Daho Swapner Natya Aojan’ at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

The event will commence today at 4:30pm at the academy’s Nandan Mancha. The six-day festival will feature plays, discussions, cultural performances and others at different venues of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Professor Hayat Mahmud and Indian critic Samik Bandyopadhyay, among others, will be present at the inaugural ceremony. Dance artiste Ivan Shahriar Shohag and his troupe will entertain the audience by presenting colourful dance recital.

Following which, a procession will be brought out from the venue.

Besides, singers Bulbul Islam, Anima Roy and Sharmin Sathi Islam will render songs and Ustad Shahadat Hossain Khan will present sarod recital at Music and Dance Centre of the academy on the opening day of the festival.

Aranyak Natyadal will stage its popular productions ‘Rarang’ and ‘Sangkranti’ during the festival. The troupe will also premiere its play ‘Kohe Facebook’.

Besides, Young Star Theatre, Parbatipur and Bangla Theatre will participate in the festival.

Samik Bandyopadhyay, Syed Manzoorul Islam, Ramendu Majumdar, Nasiruddin Yousuff and others will attend different sessions.

The festival will end on March 3.
