Students of Jagannath University paid tribute to language movement martyrs staging a mime performance on Monday on JnU campus.

The performance was staged at Shanto Chattar of the university as part of a daylong cultural event, titled ‘Amar Matribhasha’, which was organised by Jagannath University-based cultural organisation named Udichi marking Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day.

Artistes of JnU Udichi enacted different roles in the mime production directed by Masfikul Hasan Tony.

They depicted the tumultuous days of the language movement and gave the audience a glimpse into the struggles Bengali people went through to defend the honour of Bangla in 1952.

Around three hundred teachers and students gathered at the venue to enjoy the performance.

Besides mime performance, the daylong event featured music show and recitation.

Jagannath University vice-chancellor Professor Mijanur Rahman inaugurated the programme ‘Amar Matribhasha’ as chief guest in the morning. Besides, JnU treasurer Professor Kamaluddin Ahmed, former and present artistes of JnU Udichi spoke on the occasion.
