Somodhara holds poetry fest

Somodhara, a monthly magazine, organised Somodhara Kabita Utsab 2020 at the auditorium of Chhayanaut Shangskriti-Bhavan on Saturday.

The festival featured recitation, awards ceremony, discussion and book launch. Around 200 poets from Bangladesh and India participated in the event.

Somodhara honoured writer Selina Hossain with Somodhara Shahithya Puraskar 2020 for in Fiction Category while Rahim Shah received the award in Children’s Literature Category.

A folk performance styled ‘Mayuth Malir Pala’ portraying life and works of country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was also staged at the festival.

Besides, the cover of ‘Padabolir Jatthra’ was unveiled at the programme. The book contains poems penned by 201 poets.

Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta addressed the function as chief guest while novelist Imdadul Haq Milan and poet Suraj Dev, who have been selected for next year’s awards, jointly inaugurated it.

Poets Helal Hafiz, Kaiyum Nizami and Somodhara editor Salek Nasir Uddin, among others, spoke on the occasion.
