The EXIM Bank-Anyadin Humayun Ahmed Literary Award 2019 was handed over to Rabeya Khatun and Shahadat Hossain in two categories at a programme held at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy on Tuesday.
Writer Rabeya Khatun and upcoming writer Shahadat Hossain received the award respectively in lifetime achievement and young litterateur categories.
Rabeya Khatun received Tk 5,00,000 and Shahadat Hossain received Tk 1,00,000 besides crests and uttariyas.
Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen and former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor handed over the awards to the recipients at the programme, presided over by national professor Anisuzzaman, who also headed the awards committee.
‘Humayun Ahmed had enriched and shaped our literary arena through his writings. I thank organisers for honouring both seasoned and young writers with an award named after Humayun Ahmed. I urge the younger generation to read Ahmed’s books and follow in his footstep,’ said Abdul Momen.
‘I consider myself fortunate as I have had the opportunity of working with Humayun Ahmed in many dramas and films. He will live on through his creations,’ said Asaduzzaman Noor.
‘I am deeply honoured to receive this award. Though I have received many awards in my life, an award named after Humayun Ahmed is important to me. I have read many books of Humayun Ahmed,’ said Rabeya Khatun.
‘I want to thank the organisers for the award. It will inspire me to work harder,’ said Shahadat Hossain.
The award, an initiative of Anyadin and EXIM Bank, is awarded to two writers every year on the eve of Humayun Ahmed’s birthday.
