Jamalpur deputy commissioner Ahmed Kabir was withdrawn and made an officer on special duty on Sunday over a video scandal where he was seen hugging a female colleague privately.
The public administration ministry issued a gazette notification to the effect.
‘The Jamalpur DC has been made OSD for his immoral activities on the findings of primary investigation,’ state minister for public administration Farhad Hossain told reporters at his office.
He said that exemplary punishment as per service rules would be ensured as he had also tarnished the image of bureaucracy.
The state minister said that the Cabinet Division formed a committee to investigate the matter and the departmental actions would be taken on the basis of the probe against Ahmed Kabir, an administration cadre official belonging to the 18th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service.
In another official order, Mohammad Enamul Haque, private secretary (deputy secretary) to the planning minister, was posted to Jamalpur as deputy commissioner.
The Cabinet Division, earlier, initiated a move to verify the video of Ahmed Kabir with a female in a room adjacent to his office that drew widespread criticisms in social media after it went viral on Thursday.
The video went viral on Thursday night, drawing widespread criticisms against the Jamalpur deputy commissioner, who has been holding the post since May 27, 2017.
Ahmed Kabir told a press briefing in the district circuit house on Friday that he was disturbed mentally at the incident and sought a little more time to find out the truth through an investigation.
Despite efforts, the Jamalpur DC could not be contacted for comment after the order making him an OSD was issued on Sunday.
