Probe committee formed over Sirajganj train accident

Sirajganj district administration on Tuesday morning formed a six-member probe committee, headed by additional district administrator Md Firoz Mahmud, to investigate the train accident that claimed 11 lives on Monday, said additional district magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain.
The committee was directed to submit their report by six working days, he said.
Earlier, on Monday night, another four-member committee was formed in this connection.
Besides, Sirajganj district administration authorities handed over the bodies of bride, groom and nine others to their family members.
The bodies were handed over to their family members at around 3:00am on Tuesday at Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Hospital without post-mortem examinations.  
The 11 deceased are: groom Rajon Sheikh, 35, his nephew Alif Hossain, 11, bride Sumaiya Khatun, 21, Mamata Khatun, 35, Shariful Islam Sharif, 32, Ahad Ali, 19, Abdus Samad, 45, his son Shakil Ahmed, 19, microbus driver Nur-e-Alam Shwadhin, 40, Khokon Sheikh, 22, and Bhasan Sheikh, 65.  
The bodies were handed over to the family members in presence of additional district magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain, Rokonuzzaman, residential physician of the sadar hospital’s emergency department, and Sirajganj Bazar police station officer-in-charge Harun Mazumdar.  
Md Tofazzal Hossain promised to provide Tk 25,000 to each of the victim family from the district administrator’s relief fund.
On Monday evening, 11 members of a bridal party, including the bride and groom, died when a train hit a microbus at an unauthorised level crossing in Salap station area of Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj.
Dhaka-bound Padma Express hit the microbus carrying the bridal party while it was trying to cross the level crossing besides Panchacroshi Ali Ahmed High School adjacent to Salap station at about 6:30pm.
OC Harun Mazumdar confirmed the New Age that 11 people died in the accident.
