A Bangladesh Cricket Board official on Monday confirmed that they would send former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer and Sri Lankan Champaka Ramanayake as their batting and bowling consultants in Bangladesh’s next one-day international assignment in Sri Lanka.

The Tigers will play a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka on July 26, 28 and 31 respectively in Colombo and Jaffer and Ramanayake, who are in charge of High Performance Unit, will go in place of regular faces – Neil McKenzie and Courtney Walsh. South African McKenzie was yet to renew his contract while there was talk regarding Walsh not extending his contract with the Tigers after the recently concluded World Cup.

‘Champaka [Ramanayake] is a very good bowling coach…For now, we are going to take him to this series with us. If McKenzie [Neil] can’t give us the time we will take Jaffer [Wasim],’ BCB’s cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told reporters in Mirpur.

Akram also confirmed that ace all-rounder Sakib al Hasan and wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das would be unavailable for the Sri Lanka tour as Sakib will perform Hajj while Liton’s marriage ceremony would take place between the series time. ‘Most probably, we will announce the squad tomorrow [today]. We are planning to send 14 players. We may add one more player later on,’ he said.

Akram also hinted that former skipper Khaled Mahmud would be appointed as interim head coach during Bangladesh’s short trip to Sri Lanka though they were yet to finalise it.

‘We are thinking about whether Sujon will be our interim coach or not. We will take our decision after 2-3 days,’ he added.
