A sub-inspector of police and a woman were arrested in Tangail over constable recruitment bribery.

The arrested are Jamalpur police sub-inspector Mohammad Ali and Shahanatul Arefin Sumi.

Tangail superintendent of police Sanjit Kumar Roy at a press conference at his office on Saturday said that Detective Branch of police arrested them in front of his office during the illegal dealing.

A case was filed in this connection and police continued drives to arrest another SI and a broker.

He said that one Wazed Ali, a resident in Jamalpur, was searching someone to secure police constable job for his son-in-law in upcoming recruitment exam to be held on July 1.

At one stage, he met SI Mohammad Ali who introduced him with Sumi’s husband Khairul Bashar.

Khairul promised Wazed that if he gave Tk 10 lakhs as bribe he would secure job for his son-in-law in Tangail police.

On Friday Khairul Bashar, Sumi, Wazed, SI Mohammad Ali and another SI Mustafizur Rahman went to Tangail to meet SP.

According to the agreement Wazed paid the money and asked Khairul to meet SP Tangail. But, SI Mustafizur and Khairul fled the spot with the money which made Wazed suspicious.

Wazed started shouting when Sumi informed that SP would not meet him as he had some other guests to attend.

SP Tangail’s policemen arrested Sumi and SI Mohammad Ali from the spot and recovered Tk 1.95 lakhs and seized a microbus.
