Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday directed the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation to establish good reputation by improving its services during this Eid-ul-Fitr.
At a meeting at corporation’s headquarters, Obaidul also said stern actions would be taken if anyone charged extra in the corporation buses during Eid, said a release issued by the ministry.
The corporation organised meeting on ensuring safety and lessening the sufferings of the Eid-time travellers.
The minister urged all BRTC staff to be sincere in work for making the corporation a modern and accountable institution.
Recently around 200 new buses under Indian Line of Credit are added to the corporation’s fleet which could make the corporation as a profitable institute, he said.
He asked the corporation to follow existing policy strictly for leasing out the new buses.
This year the Eid journeys of passengers will be more comfortable, Obaidul added.
BRTC officials said that this year total 1,142 BRTC buses, including 253 new Indian buses, will start running under the corporation’s Eid service from Monday till June 10.
From Dhaka depots, around 650 buses will start for different destinations on different routes during Eid while 400 buses will start from depots in other districts.
Fifty corporation buses will be kept standby at different spots in the capital city to facilitate Eid holiday travellers as part of a contingency plan.
The three-day Eid vacation will begin on June 4 this year while Eid is likely to be held on June 5, subject to moon sighting.
