A two-day Tagore festival featuring discussions, drawing competition for children, cultural show and others was held at Rabindra Kachari Bari in Shahjadpur in Sirajganj on Wednesday and Thursday.
The festival titled ‘Oi Mohamanab Ashey Dikey Dikey Romanch Lagey Mortodhulir Ghashey Ghashey Noroloke Baje Joydanka’ was jointly organised by Sirajganj district administration and Shahjadpur upazila administration.
ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak was present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony presided over by additional deputy commissioner of Sirajganj Iftekhar Ahmed Shamim.
Superintendent of police of Sirajganj Tutul Chakrabarty, Shahjadpur upazila chairman Azad Rahman and executive officer of Shahjadpur upazila Nazmul Hossain Khan, among others, spoke at the event.
‘Rabindranath Tagore promoted Bengali literature and language to the global community by winning Nobel Prize in 1913. His works give us a glimpse into the rich scenic beauty and culture of Bengal,’ said Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
Following the discussion, the programme featured a vibrant cultural show to the delight of the audience.
Local artistes commenced the show by rendering chorus songs. Shahjadpur-based recitation troupes namely Barnamala, Akkhar and Uccharan recited poems penned by Rabindranath Tagore.
Besides, Shahjadpur Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Parishad and Shilpakala Academy artistes presented dance recitals synchronised with popular Tagore songs.
