Four more people were killed in a road accident in Cox’s Bazar while two in Chittagong and one in Munshiganj were killed in separate road accidents on Wednesday.
New Age correspondent in Cox’s Bazar reports that one day after death of seven people, four more people, including a woman, were killed and seven others were injured in a road accident at Harbong point of Chakoria upazila on Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong highway on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Tajuddin, 22, of Harbong of Chakoria, Abu Taher, 50, ward unit president of ruling Awami League, Yunus Mia, 35, of Rajakhali union of Pekoua of Cox’s Bazar, and Hasina Begum, 43, wife of Mohammad Salim Uddin, of Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong.
According to Chakoria police and Chirringha highway police, at least four people, including a woman, were killed on the spot and seven others injured when a Cox’s Bazar-bound covered van of RFL Company hit a human hauler near Harbong Bazar of Chakoria upazila on Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong highway in the morning at about 10:30am.
Later, Chakoria police and highway police rescued the injured and admitted them to Chakoria Upazila Health Complex.
Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector of Chirringha highway police told New Age that, police and locals recovered the dead bodies and rescued the injured from the spot and sent them to hospital.
RFL Company’s covered van and the human hauler were seized, the police said.
A case was filed with Chakoria police station in this connection.
On Tuesday, seven people were killed and 15 others injured at Chakoria upazila very near to Wednesday’s accident spot on Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong highway.
New Age staff correspondent in Chittagong reports that two people were killed and another was injured early Wednesday in a head-on collision between two covered vans at Jorarganj of Mirsarai in Chittagong.
The deceased were identified as Kabir Hossain, 40, driver of a covered van and Goutam, 18.
Mirsarai Fire Service and Civil Defence officer Rabiul Alam said that the accident took place around 3:30am when two covered van collided head-on, leaving the two dead on the spot.
New Age correspondent in Munshiganj reports that a pedestrian was killed as a truck run over him on Dhaka-Chittagong road at Gazaria in Munshiganj.
The victim was identified as Golam Mostafa, 50, an employee of Sonali Bank.
Bhaberchar highway police outpost sub-inspector Md Rafiq said that the pedestrian was injured when a Chittagong-bound truck run him over. The injured pedestrian died on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
