The Dhaka University authorities have sacked two of its faculty members as they did not join their respective department in the stipulated time after vacation.
The teachers are economics department Assistant Professor Mashfiqur Rahman Khan and development studies department Lecturer Tamanna Afrin Rimi.
The authorities concerned also asked some vacationers to join their respective department within the next eight weeks.
The decision came from a syndicate meeting, chaired by DU vice-chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman, on Monday night.
The syndicate also canceled the ‘controversial appointment’ of SM Faizul Haque Ishan of sociology department.
Syndicate member Mohammad Humayun Kabir said that the syndicate also proposed the name of National Professor Anisuzzaman as convocation speaker for the university’s 51st convocation to be held on October 6.
Earlier on May 9, the name of Liberian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Leymah Gbowee was proposed as convocation speaker.
