Two suspected ‘robbers’ killed in gunfights

At least two suspected robbers were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ at Sonachara, Bandar police station and at Purbachal, Rupganj police station, Narayanganj early Tuesday, said police.
At Sonachara, Ibrahim, 40, of Botalia, Rupganj, Narayanganj was killed in a gunfight with the police while at Purbachal Delwar Hossain alias Raja, 28, of Gendaria, in the capital was killed in the other gunfight allegedly between rival groups, police said.
Ibrahim was wanted by several police stations in Gaibandha and Narsingdi in many cases, said police.
And Delwar was also wanted by several police station in Narayanganj and Gaibandha, in at least 12 cases, the police said.
Bandar police station officer-in-charge Shahin Mandal said a team of police station following tip off raided the Sonachara area when the suspected robbers opened fire forcing the police to retaliate.
As the gunfight ended, bullet hit Ibrahim was seen lying when the police took him to the Bandar Upazila Health complex where doctors declared him dead, he said.
He said that the police seized three cocktails and three sharp weapons from the spot.
Rupganj police station OC Moniruzzaman Monir claimed that Delwar was lying critically injured after a ‘gunfight’ between two groups of robbers at Purbachal upashar early Tuesday over share of booty after robberies.
Hearing the news of ‘gunfight’, he said, the police rushed the scene and the rival groups of ‘robbers’ fled when police took critically injured Delwar to Narayanganj Victoria General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
He said that the police seized a shutter gun and bullets from the spot.
