Bangladesh Loko Sangeet Parishad paid tribute to three maestros of traditional music Abdul Alim, Kanai Lal Shil and Ustad Mamtaj Ali Khan organising a commemorative programme on Friday at Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The programme featured discussion and cultural show.
Bangladesh Loko Sangeet Parishad organised the programme marking the 44th and 43rd death anniversaries of Abdul Alim and Kanai Lal Shil and 18th death anniversary of Mamtaj Ali Khan.
Renowned classical musician Azad Rahman and monthly Sargam editor Kazi Rawnak Hossain spoke on the contributions of the late maestros at the programme, which was presided over by Bangladesh Loko Sangeet Parishad president singer Indra Mohan Rajbangshi.
Indra Mohan Rajbangshi said, ‘We should not forget the contributions of traditional musicians to Bangla music scene. Steps should be taken to preserve their works’.
Following the discussion, Bangladesh Loko Sangeet Parishad singers rendered traditional songs penned or composed by the three late maestros.
Artistes of the BLSP commenced the show with chorus renditions of popular folk songs Mukhe Allah Allah bolo maomin and Nayer badam tuila de, which were popularised by Abdul Alim.
In solos singer Arif rendered Kanai Lal Shil’s song Thakte paar ghatate tumi parer naiya to the delight of audience. The song was originally recorded by Abdul Alim.
Singer Kakon and Birahi rendered popular songs Haludiya pakhi sonar baron and Mone baro asha chhilo respectively. These two songs were also popularised by Abdul Alim.
Singers Akram and Riad paid tribute to Ustad Mamtaj Ali Khan by presenting the lyricist-composer’s songs Murshid path dekhaiya dao and Ei je duniya kiser lagiya.
Songs composed by Kanai Lal Shil like Asomoy-e banshi bajay ke re, Pinjirar pakhir mato, Oi nithur kalar sone re and Mamtaj Ali Khan’s songs like Chara gachhe phul, Ashar maser bristite, Gun gun gaan gahiya and others were rendered by singers at the event.
Besides, singers also rendered songs recorded by Abdul Alim like Sab sakhire paar karite, Bhromorare gaiyo na gaan, Swarup tui biney, Babu selam bare bar and others.
