The second anniversary of death of former member of parliament and former Awami League vice-president M Abdur Rahim will be observed today.
Family members and different social organisations have chalked out a four-day programme to observe the anniversary.
The programmes will begin today around 10:30am with placing of wreaths on freedom fighter M Abdur Rahim’s grave at village Jalalpur in Dinajpur followed by prayer sessions and recitations from the Holy Quran.
On Wednesday, Sandhani and Medicine Club M Abdur Rahim Medical College in Dinajpur will hold a blood donation campaign on the institution premises while the Dinajpur chapter of the Bangladesh Medical Association and the Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad will provide free medical treatment to the local people.
On September 6, a discussion commemorating the contributions of the former Gana Parishad member will be held on the medical college premises with cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor as the chief guest around 3:00pm.
On September 7, a special dua mahfil will be held after Jumma prayers at all mosques in Dinajpur upazila and town and prayers sessions will be held at all temples in local towns for the salvation of the late freedom fighter’s soul.
On September 4, 2016 M Abdur Rahim, one of the close associates of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a liberation war organiser and western zone chairman of the then Mujibnagar government died at the age of 89.
Born in Dinajpur on November 21, 1927, Abdur Rahim was elected a member of the then provincial government formed in 1970.
He was also a member of the constitution formulation committee and the vice-president of Awami League when Bangabandhu was the party president.
