A man, who was allegedly set on fire by some drug traders over a drug-related dispute in Fatullah of Narayanganj, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Sumon, 38, son of Abdul Jalil of Mahasadair Pakapul area in Fatullah of Sadar upazila.
Victim’s wife Sumi said that a local resident known to them, Sohel Mandal, younger brother of Aslam Mandal and former Enayetnagar union member called her husband out of the house around 9:00pm on Friday night.
Soon afterwards she rushed out on hearing her husband scream on the road and found that he was set on fire.
Sumon was rushed to local hospital and later shifted to DMCH after his condition deteriorated.
Before dying, Sumon told his relatives that on the night of the incident, he had an argument with local drug dealer Biplob, his wife Sahela Begum and an accomplice of theirs, Sohel Mandal, over repayment of a loan which Sumon had given to Biplob.
At one stage, Biplob and his associates poured kerosene on him and set him on fire.
Officer-in-charge of Fatullah police station Shah Manjur Kader said that they were investigating the matter.
Biplob, however, denied the allegation and said that Sumon had self-immolated as he was a drug addict.
