Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s director general Liaquat Ali Lucky will receive Dr Bhupen Hazarika Byatikrom International Award 2018 on September 8 in Guwahati at the late Indian singer Bhupen Hazarika’s 92th birth anniversary celebrations programme.
The award will be given to Lucky for his contributions to preserving and promoting Hazarika’s people’s songs by Indian Byatikrom Mass Awareness and Social Development Organisation at Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia Auditorium in Guwahati, Assam.
Dr Bhupen Hazarika Byatikrom International Award 2018 is supported by Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust, Friends of Bangladesh: Dhaka and Assam, ICCR and directorate of cultural affairs, Assam.
‘I feel honoured to be selected for the award named after legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika. This is the first time I have been selected for an international music award’, said Liaquat Ali Lucky.
Lucky said he got popularity at his student life rendering Hazarika’s songs when he was the cultural affairs secretary of Dhaka University Central Student’s Union.
‘Bhupen Hazarika also praised me listening to my cover of his song and gave me the titled of Bhupen of Bangladesh’, said Lucky.
An actor, director, singer, composer and cultural organiser Liaquat Ali Lucky was born on January 13, 1957. His parents were Sheikh Sadek Ali and Majeda Begum. Lucky completed his graduation in English Literature from Dhaka University.
Lucky has acted in 58 theatre productions, directed 82 plays and has written and adapted 8 dramas.
Lucky has received numerous awards for his contributions to the culture scene. He received Dhaka University Gold Medal in 1984, The Face of Bengal award given by The face of Bengal organisation of West Bengal, Honorary Cultural Envoy of Japan (2004) award, The Unique Group Gold Medal (2000), Munier Chowdhury Medal (2013), poet Mahbub ul Alam Chowdhury award (2015) and Journalist Bojlur Rahman memorial medal (2015).
