Nirmalendu honoured with Farabi lit award

Popular poet Nirmalendu Goon was honoured with Khan Mohammad Farabi Literature Award by Shahitya Academy at a programme held on Friday at Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum.
RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, also chairman of the parliamentary standing committee at the ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs, handed over the award to Goon as the chief guest. President of Jatiya Kabita Parishad poet Muhammad Samad was present as the special guest at the programme.
Nirmalendu Goon thanked Shahitya Academy for the award.
‘I feel humbled to receive the award named after cultural personality and poet Khan Mohammad Farabi,’ said Goon.
RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury recalled his memories of Farabi.
‘He was my classmate at Dhaka College in 1969. He was not only a good student but also a good politician,’ said Obaidul Muktadir.
Khan Mohammad Farabi’s Sister Dr Fatema Khan was also present at the programme.
Khan Mohammad Farabi was born on July 28 1952. His popular books like Kabita O Onnanno (1976), Mamar Biyer Borjatri (1976), Akasher Oparey Akash (1981) and Ek O Onek (1986) were published posthumously. Farabi died on May 15 in 1974.
