A suspected drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion at Basila under Mohammadpur Police station in the capital early Monday, raising the death toll to 208 in the ongoing nationwide anti-drug drive since May 15.
The deceased, Md Rajon, 25, son of Shahabuddin of Ekhlaspur under Begumganj in Noakhali used to live in a rented residence at Nabinagar housing area under Mohammadpur in the capital, said RAB.
The family members claimed that Rajon, who was a human-hauler driver, remained missing since May 29 when he was picked up by unidentified plain-clothed men.
RAB in a text message said that ‘drug peddler’ Rajon was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the RAB at Basila area early Sunday.

Two members of RAB were injured during the ‘gunfight’, the message read.

Rajon’s wife Surama Akhter, who along with her father-in-law came to DMCH around noon, told reporters that her husband was picked up by a group of plain-clothed men on May 29 evening and he remained missing since then.
She said that they later went to different law enforcement agencies, who denied her husband’s detention.
‘My husband was a human hauler driver and often used to take hemp but was not a drug peddler. He was accused in five cases but he was free on bail in all the cases,’ she claimed.
She said that they came to DMCH seeing television news of the death of one man namely Rajon in ‘gunfight’ at Basila.
