Jayanta recites popular poems

Jayanta Chattopadhyay performs at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.

Renowned recitation artiste and actor Jayanta Chattopadhyay moved hall-full audience reciting popular poems at a solo show held on Saturday at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Chattopadhyay recited poems penned by famous poets like Rabindranath Tagore, Jibanananda Das, Tarapada Roy, Shakti Chattopadhyay, Abul Hasan, Nirmalendu Goon and others.
In between the recitations the artiste also shared his views on recent trends in poetry recitation and performance.
The programme titled ‘Arup Tomar Bani’ was organised by recitation troupe Harbola as part of its year-long programmes marking its 20th founding anniversary.
Educationist Abdullah Abu Sayeed congratulated Jayanta Chattopadhyay, who stepped into his 70th year on July 28.
‘A recitation artiste imparts the hidden message of a poem to the audience. Jayanto Chattopadhyay stands tall among the Bengali recitation artistes in both Bangladesh and India,’ said Abdullah Abu Sayeed.
Jayanta began the show reciting Tagore’s famous poem Dusamoy. The audience greatly enjoyed the poem famous for its lines like ‘Ore binhanga ore bihanga mor/ ekhoni ondho, bondho korona pakha’, which reminds a person not to close his/her wings, not to stop flying.
The artiste captivated the audience reciting poems like Jibanananda Das’ Nagna Nirjan Haat, Shakti Chattopadhyay’s Ananda Bhairabi, Nirmalendu Goon’s Tumi Chole Jachcho and Ota Kichu Noy, Abul Hasan’s Ototuku Chaini Balika, Shanti Lahiri’s Jete Chas, Cholei Jabi and others.
Besides, Jayanta and noted recitation artiste Dalia Ahmed in duet recited Tagore’s Karna-Kunti Sangbad to the delight of the audience.
Jayanta ended the show reciting two witty and funny poems penned by Tarapada Roy.
Following the riveting performance, different recitation troupes like Bangladesh Abritti Samannay Parishad, Kanthashilan, Kotha, Swanan, Baikuntha, Srot, Swarastuti, Indian recitation troupe Shankhamala and others congratulated Jayanta Chattopadhyay with flower bouquets.
