The garment workers’ right bodies will besiege the wage board office on August 5 demanding to set minimum wage at Tk 16,000 per month for apparel workers.
The decision was taken on Sunday at a views exchange programme held at Communist Party of Bangladesh central office in the capital.
They rejected the proposals of the owners’ proposal of Tk 6,360 and labour representatives’ proposal of Tk 12,020 as minimum wage.
Politician and labour leader Manzurul Ahsan Khan at the programme called on the garment labour right bodies to remain united and continue their movements to force the government to announce minimum wage at Tk 16,000 per month.
The government and the factory owners are conspiring jointly to deprive the factory workers, Manzur said.
The coordinator of the Garment Sramik Adihikar Andolan, Mahbubur Rahman Ismail, general secretary general of the Garment Workers’ Trade Union Centre Joly Talukder, Garment Sramik O Shilpa Jatiya Mancha convener Abul Hossain, president of Garment Sramik Sanghati Taslima Akhter and others attended the views exchange programme.
