Leading Nazrul Sangeet artistes presented popular romantic songs written and composed by Kazi
Nazrul Islam at a felicitation programme on Rafiqul Islam held on Tuesday at Nazrul Institute auditorium.
Nazrul Institute organised the programme to felicitate its trustee board chairman professor Rafiqul Islam, who was appointed by the government as national professor for the next five years on June 19 along with professor emeritus Anisuzzaman and professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury.
Leading Nazrul singers including Ferdous Ara, Leena Taposhi Khan, Yakub Ali Khan and artistes of dance troupe Dhriti Nrityanalaya performed at the programme, which also featured a discussion.
Ferdous Ara presented Nazrul’s love song Hara hiyar nikunja pathe, Leena Taposhi Khan sang Jao meghdut dio priyar hatey and Yakub Ali Khan rendered another popular romantic song Mone pore aj se kon jonome.
Artistes of Dhriti Nrityanalaya, led by Warda Rihab, presented a colourful dance recital synchronised with a number of Nazrul songs.
Acting secretary of cultural affairs ministry M Nasir Uddin Ahmed, singers Khalid Hossain, Khairul Anam Shakil, poet Habibullah Sirajee, Kazi Nazrul Islam’s granddaughter Khilkhil Kazi and Nazrul Institute executive director Abdur Razzak Bhuiya, among others, congratulated Rafiqul Islam.
‘Rafiqul Islam has been tirelessly working to promote works of Kazi Nazrul Islam for decades. I wish him a long and eventful life’, said M Nasir Uddin Ahmed.
‘We are very privileged to have a devoted scholar like Rafiqul Islam among us. He has enlightened many Nazrul enthusiasts through his works’, said Khilkhil Kazi.
‘I have been trying to do research on Kazi Nazrul Islam for the last sixty years. I want to collect and promote literary works and songs penned by the national poet as long as I can’, said Rafiqul Islam.
